Exciting news! I have moved blogs. I am in the process of slowly moving all the posts over. Please join me at MomOffTrack.com.
Today marks the one year anniversary of our move to Colorado. Guess some reflection is in order on this…
The Good
- Our house
- Year round swimming has been great for Carter
- Skiing-again, great for the boys. I personally would list it in the bad category.
- Children’s Hospital was a nice facility.
- Zoo
- Fun sports teams to become fans of
- Generally great accessibility for Carter.
- I have made nice friends through my online stuff that live here.
- My work has really taken off since I have been more focused on that here.
- Less stress and travel for Bob-not to mention the obvious reason we moved here
- The landscape can be pretty at times
The Bad
- Still really miss our friends.
- I hate being so far away from California. I hate that we can’t jump in the car and be there in a few hours. I really miss the beach and Disney.
- The snow-notice I didn’t put this in “The Ugly” category. It wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be
- Not really getting out to make new family friends yet. The few homeschool groups we tried here just didn’t work out well for us. I miss having barbeques too.
- Our backyard-no one here seems to care that split rail fencing provides NO privacy. Pretty creepy if you ask me.
The Ugly
- Tornadoes- I know only one has actually caused damage to the house but I am completely freaked out by them now.
- Being so far away from family. This has been hard this year with everything we have going on.
- Just being generally lonely
So, I guess that sums it up. Would I move back to Vegas? Probably not. I would however, jump on a move to Phoenix right now, which is something I really never thought I would say.
I really, really am trying to make “Bloom Where You Are Planted” my motto for this upcoming year.

I understand. We moved from Chicago to Portland OR about 10 years ago and there were plenty of good, bad and ugly aspects for us too. Today, I’d never consider moving back to the Midwest again. We’ve grown to absolutely love it out here. I’ve been to Colorado several times and think it’s a great place to live–so beautiful with its mountains and all that sunshine. We considered moving there but, frankly, had had enough of winter after living in Chicago for so many years. I hope you and your family will find happiness there–or that you’ll find someplace that may be even better for you.

I guess it is just never easy. I am completely convinced that I am a desert soul with a beach longing. Not a woodsy, country kinda gal.
Thanks for your insights
It takes a long time for seeds to mix, spread, adjust to the soil, before a great flower can bloom and meet all of its potential. time is on your side the sun will come out and the clouds will go away and your garden will produce many great things.(including a tree) The little old lady in Az.
When I first read this I totally thought you wrote TOMATOES had damaged your house. Sheesh. Can you tell what I’ve been doing lately?
