Skiing

Exciting news! I have moved blogs. I am in the process of slowly moving all the posts over. Please join me at MomOffTrack.com.

Yesterday was one of the rare days when I remembered why we moved to Colorado. The main reason, besides Bob’s career was to have a better family life. Lately, I have not been very focused on the positives of CO. I have been more focused on not having very many friends here, and the snow keeping us stuck inside a lot of days. The snow is hard on Carter, I haven’t learned how to drive in it yet and I plain just don’t like the cold. Give me 110 degrees in the desert any day over this white stuff on the ground. BUT, I digress, this is a positive post.

Yesterday was our first chance to ski. For Carter to be able to ski, we go through the MOST AMAZING program at National Sports Center for the Disabled in Winter Park. You might remember what a great time we had alpine sliding with them this summer. Carter uses a sit-ski and has two volunteers go with him. Carter is tethered to the volunteers to control his speed. He basically pulls them down the mountain. Bob went skiing with Carter and Connor took his first snowboarding lesson. All three of them were out on the mountain 6 hours. When Carter came in for lunch he was absolutely bubbling with excitement. He said, “Skiing is my new favorite sport. I finally found something where people don’t throw balls at me and I can go as fast or slow as I want”. Because he had the two instructors he was able to go down some pretty big runs. By the afternoon Connor had made it to Level 2 of the 6 levels to pass snowboarding school. He was able to do some pretty basic runs.

Both boys are completely hooked on skiing/boarding. Bob had a blast too. I was hooked on seeing how happy they all are, and I guess that is why we moved to Colorado after all!

  1. Hey! I thought you weren’t posting, because I was not seeing it on my blog, (but I fixed that). So I have been catching up. I am so sorry to hear about your Dad! Wow! And then being snowbound is not the best either. Well, I am sad to say, the week you’re coming is the week of my first show for the year! I’m so bummed! You will have fun with girls. Darlene and Tara are always there. Amy doesn’t come anymore. Maybe if you email Amy, she’ll try harder, knowing Conner will be there. Thanks for the nice comments. Just last week, Darlene and I were talking about how much we miss you and how the boys miss Carter! How long will you be in town?
